Hardeman County Schools selected for Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Bolivar Elementary and Grand Junction Elementary Schools has been selected at receive the Fruit and Vegetable grant for the 2019-2020 school year.

The purpose of this program is to make available free fresh fruits and vegetables to increase the fruit and vegetable consumption.  These fresh fruits and vegetables must be provided to all students at no cost separately from the lunch and breakfast meal during the school day.  Nutrition Education will be provided with this grant and is an ideal way to introduce and reinforce good eating habits.  The Fruit and Vegetable program introduces students to new and different fresh fruits and vegetables.  They are good low-calorie, low-fat sources of vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program shows students that fresh fruit and vegetables are healthy and tasty alternatives to snacks high in fat, sugar, or salt.   Click here for more information about this program.
